Ford of the Future: Fully Autonomous Vehicles in 2021

On this day, Ford announces their intent to have a fully autonomous SAE level 4-capable vehicle in commercial operation in 2021! Ford is investing with four start up companies for the development of the autonomous vehicle and doubling it's team in the Silicon Valley and the Palo Alto campus.

Ford's goal is to develop a high tech autonomous vehicle within this decade to improve safety and find a solution for social and environmental challenges. One of the most important parts about this new development is that the vehicle won't just be for people who can afford luxurious vehicles.

Ford's new segment and brand called Ford Smart Mobility will be one of the largest parts in defining the autonomous vehicle. Ford's plan for Ford Smart Mobility is to become the leader of self driving cars and become the leader in mobility, connectivity, the customer experience, and more.

With years of research, Ford's self driving vehicle will be fully autonomous without a steering wheel or gas and break pedals. This vehicle will be mainly used for commercial mobility services. Examples of commercial mobility services are ride sharing and ride hauling.
